Moving from the old app

Post Purchase Surveys has a new version. If you used the app before, your survey and your answer history copy over automatically. You need to do three things to show the survey again.

Why you need to act

The old app showed the survey with a script on the Order status page. Shopify’s upgraded Thank you and Order status pages do not run those scripts. The new app uses a checkout block instead, and only you can add that block to your pages.

What copies over

  • The app stays installed. You don’t need to install it again.
  • Your survey: your questions, options and order tags. If a question had one option with a text box, that option becomes the “Other” option. If it had several, they stay as normal options with their labels.
  • Your history: the number of answers for each option, for each day.
  • Your limits: you keep up to 25 questions and 40 options for each question. New stores get 5 and 12.

The old history has answer counts only. It has no revenue or AOV, and the text of old written answers is not copied. Buyers’ details are not copied either, because the new app never stores them.

What you need to do

  1. Open the app once from Apps in your Shopify admin.

    Check that your survey looks right on the survey page.

  2. Add the Post-purchase survey block to your Thank you page and Order status page in the checkout editor.

  3. Switch Survey is live on and save.

    Your survey copies over switched off, so buyers don’t see it before the block is in place.

See your old history

In Insights, choose the All time date range. Shorter ranges may not reach back to your old answers.

  • If you renamed or deleted an option in the old app, its answers show as “Old answer: label”, with the label the old app saved.
  • Old answers follow the same rule as new ones: an answer with fewer than 3 buyers is not shown on its own.

If your survey did not copy

A few old questions do not fit the new app: a rating scale other than 1 to 5 or 0 to 10, or a choice question with only one option. The app leaves these questions out and copies the rest of your survey. In very rare cases, no question fits, and the app starts with a new default survey. Your history is still there in every case.
